The idea for the marriage of slate and wood came during a visit to Scotland. In Scotland they use a lot of slate to make serving boards. However, they lack the beautiful hardwoods that are available here in Ohio. The slate allows you to serve something hot without worrying about damaging the wood. The slate you see is reclaimed from old barn roofing.
